Voters and the general political climate heavily favor a candidate like Marissa, who is removed from the specter of corruption associated with LA City Hall and is committed to working hand-in-hand with communities to protect and fight on behalf of residents, consumers, and the most vulnerable. 

 

Marissa shows tremendous potential for growth in the race, as long as voters are made aware of her record and commitment to standing against Trump's illegal assault on the rights of the people of Los Angeles,, while also ensuring they are informed of her successful career of holding corporations accountable and protecting renters, workers, and consumers. 

 

As voters begin speaking with their families and friends, it is important to understand why Marissa Roy is the candidate Los Angeles needs in this moment, instead of her opponent. John McKinney.

 

Marissa enters the final stretch of the race with a strong record. A lifelong Angeleno, Deputy Attorney General*, and consumer protection and civil rights attorney, she is the type of candidate voters would like to see as their next City Attorney. 

 

As City Attorney, Marissa will prioritize bringing charges against ICE and federal agents who use excessive force, and she will defend Angelenos from MAGA and Trump’s attacks on our civil rights. 

 

Marissa will also fight to protect consumers and hold corporations accountable for breaking the law. 

 

Marissa is supported and trusted by a broad coalition to take on this challenge, from Senator Bernie Sanders to Planned Parenthood, teachers, and nurses. 

 

Her opponent, John McKinney, is a dangerous candidate for LA residents. He calls himself a Democrat, but he surrounds himself with Trump donors and hires MAGA Republican operatives to advise his campaign. McKinney was even recommended by the LA County Republican Party. 

 

McKinney’s corporate interest donor base also presents a clear risk to everyday Angelenos, with the high possibility he will be more responsive to their interests,  rather than the interests of working families. He receives backing from corporate landlords, billionaires, and big tech who are out of step with the people of Los Angeles.

 

Voters should speak with their family and friends about how, and why, John McKinney can’t be trusted to uphold their values. He won’t hold corporations who break the law accountable and make life more expensive.
